Hubbway is a family run company with over 55-years’ experience in the Plant Hire industry. We believe in making a solution to any customers problems in order they can have quality products from the highest standard of Manufacturers. With excellent Customer Focus, we are committed to consistently strive to improve our products and services to enhance the process, achieving a superior quality of service delivered. As a family run company, Hubbway can be nimbler and more flexible to move and shift into different circumstances, when needed. This will all focus on the long-term customer relationship.
Hubbway work together with Civil Engineering, Ground Stabilisation, Heavy Earthworks, Highways projects, Housing, utilities, demolition and rail sectors
We have a new state of the art workshop, where we repair and service our equipment, including our fleet of vehicles. We have parts stores, fabrication and welding shop, shot blasting and paint shop. This gives us the resource, skills and ability to carry out all tasks inhouse to our own high quality standards.
Hubbway History:
Hubbway Ltd was founded in 1965 by George Hubb. The business was originally located in Ellington, next to one of the largest deep coal mines in the UK.
George started with a garage franchise which he expanded when he started hiring small tools and plant for the construction of Lynemouth Power Station. In 1989 George stopped selling cars to focus on vehicle and equipment rentals.
In 1992 George’s son, Nick, left school and joined the business as an apprentice plant fitter. Nick and George realised that the business needed a location nearer to Newcastle and the industrial areas of the North East so that they could expand the business. In 1999 a site at Cramlington was found, this provided the perfect location as it was ideally situated near to the A1 giving easy access to the north of England and Scotland.
The move to Cramlington brought another change to Hubbway, George and Nick decided to focus the business on plant hire and sales. They took the difficult decision to sell the vehicle rental fleet of over 100 vehicles to their competitor Northgate PLC to concentrate on plant hire.
Nick became managing director of the business in 2001, he decided to invest in specialist machinery examples include Manitou buggiscopic, Yanmar tracked dumpers, 25 metre Manitou rota telehandlers and 10 tonne Hydrema dumpers.
He also invested heavily in lighting towers and has over 100 ready for hire throughout the UK from the Cramlington Depot. Investment in telehandlers has also been an important move for Hubbway and the company now has one of the largest independently owned telehandler fleets in the Northeast.
Recently:
In 2018, 18 acres of land was purchased in Cramlington and the new depot was built. Nick Hubb wanted purpose-built workshop and offices. At design stage it was very important to have a positive impact on the environment, the building was designed to be as sustainable as possible, letting in as much natural light as achievable.
Reduced energy costs within the depot allows the company to invest more in new plant and vehicles with cleaner air technology, including lowering emissions. The renewable program is striving on pollution prevention. Creating a positive impact on the state of the planet.
